wellfleet modern woods house
A3 designed a summer house for extended family who have been coming from the Midwest to spend summers in Wellfleet for fifty years or so. The existing gently sloping lot was wooded and connected to an existing family house up the hill. The design is inspired by the Wellfleet modern houses of the 1930s and 40s. The three modern shed roof structures are organized to all face south for maximum solar gain. The long narrow bar on the west connects the upper lot above the house to the lower lot with a soft sloped metal roof with photovoltaic panels. The house is net-zero ready with all electric systems and enhanced insulation.
