Chatham Village historic renovation
The existing house is an historic 1850’s Greek revival near Chatham Village set on a gorgeous 1.5 acre lot with open meadows in the back. The house has been renovated but retains its existing historic charm with wide plank pine flooring and charming detailing throughout. We were asked to renovate a dated kitchen addition from the 1980s that had no windows or access to the back yard vistas to the south. The family wanted a modern open kitchen that could easily accommodate their family of 5 and friends but also provided views and connections to the back meadow.
The addition created a new mudroom that organized the laundry and half bath, and created new storage and small office space. The addition also includes a small butler’s pantry that connects the new kitchen to the historic dining room in the front of the house. The new kitchen has soaring vaulted ceilings with grey washed beams in stark contrast to the flat ceilings at the existing house. The beams are structural but also used to organize the lighting at the island. The new triple slider brings in light from the south and opens the kitchen up to the back deck, patio and meadow beyond.
